Design Your Own Ring
We will be offering design your own ring and design your own jewelry services in the very near future.
We have recognized within recent years that there is a strong demand for customized jewelry and feel that we are able to offer a fun interactive way for people to customize their wedding rings, engagement rings, and other jewelry.
Offering a design your own jewelry feature is something that we have seen many different companies try to add to their website. For the most part, this feature is usually one web page that has multiple pull-down menus from which you can choose different features for your ring. For wedding rings, this usually consists of a choice of metals (i.e. 10k, 14k, 18k white and yellow gold, platinum, palladium, titanium, tungsten and sterling silver), choice of diamonds, or other gemstones, ring size, and whether you want the ring engraved or not.
For engagement rings, there are more choices offered. The first, and possibly most important choice, is the center diamond. You can choose the shape, size, color, cut, and clarity. You may also have some choice regarding the side diamonds that accompany the center stone. And once again, you can choose the type of metal, ring size, and whether you want the ring engraved.
Our goal will be to create a fun and interactive design your own ring feature that will allow you to click, drag and drop to make specific choices. For example, you may be able to customize a wedding ring by clicking, dragging and dropping different colored gemstones into the ring. You will be able to create a number of possible different combinations.
In looking at other website’s design your own ring function, we have noticed that some sites have opted to use CAD software to create 3D versions of the rings. In some cases, this has been done brilliantly. You can click and twist a ring in any direction and view the ring from any perspective. It makes for a very powerful demonstration. The only problem that we have found is that most rings created in these 3D environments do not look 100% real. The biggest issue we have had with these portrayals is that the metal looks dull and lifeless. There is no shine to the metal as you would see in a real ring. This is something we wish to avoid.
It will still be a bit of time before we have our design your own ring feature up and running. After all, we still have literally thousands of rings to add to WeddingRings.net and this will take some time in itself. However, rest assured that once we have this feature in our site, it will be a great feature and something people will really have fun with!
