Retro Glam: Vintage Weddings and Wedding Rings

Since November, WeddingRings.Net has been talking about the beauty of antique and vintage wedding and engagement rings…and it appears that we were not the only ones. It has been announced that the hottest wedding trend for 2010 is, as the wedding planning site The Knot, calls it…Retro Glamour…a nod back to the stunning styles of yesteryear. Whether you want to use the term “vintage,” “retro,” or “antique,” Brides and Grooms across the globe are on fire over past looks and incorporating them into everything from the engagement ring to the wedding gown.

According the The Knot, Retro Glam weddings include style influences from the Art Deco and Edwardian eras, the hit cable television show Mad Men, and the infamous starlet Grace Kelly. This includes white ball gowns with black accents and sashes, as well as slender lady gloves, chiffon, detailed lace, bold red lipstick, an overdose of pearls, and 1960s era hairdos like French twists and beehives. With the 2010 Retro Glam wedding, men look best in jet-black tuxedos and bridesmaids belong in the deep and bold Art Deco inspired hues reminiscent of precious gemstones like emeralds, sapphires, and rubies.

Once the Retro Glam wedding stage is set, in comes the most important purchase of the event, the bride and groom’s wedding rings. To compliment her bouffant hair and his strong black tux, the wedding ring trend of 2010 follows the lead with vintage inspired designs from the Art Deco era, the Edwardian period, and the 1950s and 1960s…but how do you spot these antique wedding rings?

While gold wedding rings are back in high demand, and have been used in wedding ring design for centuries, traditionally wedding and engagement rings designed in the Art Deco and Edwardian eras were made of the newly available Platinum or white gold, and covered in diamonds or colored gemstones. The Edwardian era wedding and engagement rings saw white on white (platinum and diamonds), and the Art Deco era wedding and engagement rings loved to toss in a few colorful precious gems. Theses wedding rings, no matter what the carat weight, were highly detailed, typically appeared light and delicate, and were encrusted with sparkling stones.

Do you want to plan your own Retro Glam wedding and are you drawn to the allure of a stylish and stunning antique wedding or engagement ring? What better way to honor your eternal vows that to chose a wedding ring or engagement ring that breaks the standard mold and becomes an instant family heirloom. Take a look at some of these beautiful antique, retro, or vintage wedding and engagement rings…
