Sleigh bells, carolers, and nativity scenes make a beautiful backdrop for your big day. If you have decided to plan a Christmas wedding, perhaps you chose this special time of year because the birth of Christ has an important meaning to you, and you would like God to have a significant role in your marriage.  Whether your wedding is on December 25th or sometime during the Christmas season, tying the knot during the holidays makes this favorite time of year even more special, and gives you another great anniversary to celebrate every year.

Having a Christian wedding is more than merely holding the ceremony in a church.  There are other things you can do to include Christ in your big day.  From the décor you select, to the ceremony you plan, to the wedding rings you choose, here are a few ideas to express your love for God, and your spouse-to-be.

  • Ask your pastor to open and close your ceremony with prayer.
  • Ask the pastor to tell the story of the birth of Christ during the ceremony.
  • Light a Unity Candle, which symbolizes the union of the bride, the groom, and Christ.
  • Incorporate a bible verse that is significant to you, perhaps I Corinthians 13, in your wedding program.
  • Repeat this verse on your reception napkins, along with your names and wedding date.
  • Purchase a special bible and carry this along with your flowers as you walk down the isle.  Pass this tradition, and the bible onto your daughter for her wedding.
  • Include time in your ceremony for quiet prayer between one another, and thank Christ for the gift of your new spouse.
  • Instead of the Unity Candle ceremony, consider the Cord of Three Strands.  This represents the bride, the groom, and Christ at the center, binding you together and strengthening your union.
  • There are many beautiful options for your wedding band.  You could select a simple ring and engrave a Christian message or bible verse inside, or how about selecting a ring that is designed to remind you of your devotion to Christ and your marriage, and purchase a Christian wedding band?  There is a large selection of Christian wedding rings here, and look at  these two great examples below:

Christian Rings: Joined by Christ

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Is the exchange of wedding rings a Christian tradition?  You may know that rings have been exchanged for thousands of years, much before the advent of Christianity.  And, while there are no bible verses that reference the exchange of rings in a marriage ceremony, in all contemporary ceremonies both the bride and groom are expected to do so.

The Christian tradition of exchanging the wedding ring during vows dates back to 870 AD, and the rings have come to symbolize honor, commitment, and love between the bride and the groom.  Traditionally, after the vows are repeated, and the rings are exchanged, and in many Christian sects the rings are blessed by the Priest before hand.  Some typical vows include:
“I give you this ring as a symbol of my love; and with all that I am and all that I have, I honor you, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
“This ring I give you, in token and pledge of our constant faith and abiding love.”
“In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, take and wear this ring as a sign of my love and faithfulness.”
Faithful couples do not necessarily need to seek out specialized Christian bands, standard wedding bands serve this purpose just fine, but today, many Christians also choose to use their wedding rings to symbolize the importance of spiritual commitment to one another.  To serve as a daily reminder that God is involved in the sanctity of their marriage.
Through verses in the Holy Bible, God urges simplicity and warns Christians to shy away from flashy jewelry.  Following suit, most Christian rings are simple adaptations from standard bands, such as a simple gold band inscribed with a bible verse that the couple finds compelling. Others have carved detailed of Christian symbolism such as an olive branch, a dove, sets footprints, or various crosses. Many Christian rings can also be worn in honor of the individual’s faith in God and not just serve as a token of marriage.

The Joined by Christ ring is a special Christian wedding ring.  While it honors God’s direction for simplicity in jewelry, the design is detailed enough to be unique and set itself apart from other bands.  The Joined by Christ ring is carved with a cross, flanked by two circles.  The cross represents the Father, Son, and Holy Sprit, while one circle acts as the woman, and the other, the man.  The man and woman are connected by the cross, expressing the couple’s intent to emphasize God’s place in their marriage, their commitment, and the love they share.

Choosing a Christian Wedding Ring

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Making the decision to symbolize your relationship with a Christian wedding ring is a lovely choice for couples who want to commemorate their love both for one another and to their faith. Christian wedding rings are available in many styles and designs, so it’s important to learn about the different options you have in order to find the perfect ring.

Wedding Ring Symbolism

It is undeniable that wedding rings are designed to symbolize love, fidelity and an unwavering willingness to spend the rest of your life with one person. Choosing a Christian wedding ring enables couples to add an additional layer of symbolism to their union. With a Christian wedding ring, you are not only symbolizing your relationship to each other but also your relationship to God and your faith.

Designs

There are actually a surprising number of designs available to choose from when considering a Christian wedding ring. Whether you choose a simple wedding band or a more elaborate style, there are Christian rings to meet your needs.

Many couples choose a simple or silver wedding band and engrave a favorite Biblical quote or religious reference that pertains to marriage and the emotions surrounding that union. Because the Bible actually advocates simplicity, couples who choose plain rings are symbolizing their union to each other as well as God, and honoring Him by adhering to the teachings of the Bible.

More elaborate styles are available, however. For example, many couples choose to engrave either the exterior of the band or the interior with a favorite religious phrase or sentiment that holds special meaning to them.

Carving religious symbols into the band, such as crosses, fish outlines (to represent the miracles of Jesus) or a crown of thorns are all appropriate and lend a spiritual significance to your wedding ring. For an even more distinctive look, a figural wedding ring in the shape of a cross accented with tiny diamonds or other gemstones may be a lovely, though expensive, choice.

Doves are also popular symbols to be carved into Christian wedding rings, and a simple gold band with footprints circling the entire  ring is a simple yet creative choice.

When finding Christian wedding rings that match your needs and your budget, it’s really not that difficult to track down a wide selection. If you are only interested in having a special Bible verse or quote inscribed into a simple gold band, any band from your local jeweler will do.

If you intend on having a more elaborate wedding ring created, there are many online retailers that specialize in Christian wedding rings. These retailers offer a wide selection of Christian-themed rings that fit all sorts of budget and style tastes, from the basic to the elaborate and elegant.

No matter how simple or intricate a Christian wedding ring may be, the important thing is that the ring represents not only their faith in each other but their faith in God as well. Christian wedding rings are a very powerful spiritual symbol of love and fidelity, and you should be able to find the perfect ring to commemorate the occasion with little hassle.
