Giving just the stone instead of an engagement ring

Getting, and giving, and engagement ring has many pitfalls. If you didn’t go shopping together, then you do not know if she will like the ring. If you have been keeping the engagement ring a secret, you also don’t know if she will say yes to your proposal. You do not know if the ring you are getting is the right size or shape for her finger. Lastly, you might be stuck with a ring she doesn’t like.

There are many ways around this, and one of them is to get, and give, only the stone.

Most jewelers will sell you just the stone, and you can go back together to get the setting. This way you know she will like the ring, because she will get to pick it out. You can also have the satisfaction of keeping the whole process a secret, because you are only getting the stone. You don’t need to find out her ring size, her ideal setting and whether she wants a solitaire, banded solitaire or other setting. Additionally, you don’t have to figure out whether you want to get her a wedding set or an engagement ring and wedding band separately.

The stone is the most expensive portion of the purchase, and so it is important that you get the right stone. You want to make sure you know about the 4 C’s of diamonds: cut, color, clarity and carat. When buying just the stone, it is important to keep in mind that you might have additional costs, depending on what setting your fiancée chooses. Stay within your budget, and leave enough room in the budget that you can pay for the setting.

When you present the stone, you still need to have some romance. Even though it is just a stone, you can get a nice box to present the stone in. With the stone in a box, you can even propose in the traditional manner: on one knee with a box.

Giving just the stone has additional benefits. You can do the rest of the shopping together, and buying an engagement ring together is the way to go. Also, it can be very romantic to know that you care enough about your fiancée to want her to have a perfect engagement ring. Lastly, it assures that you will have a ring she will wear forever, and not want to trade for something else.
