Celebrity Enagagement Rings

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Celebrities are known for taking things over the top.  From the clothes they wear, the cars they drive, the houses they build, and the parties they throw, it seems they are always trying to break the mold and go extreme.  This is also true for the weddings they plan, and the engagement and wedding rings they buy.  Unlike when pop British signer Robbie Williams proposed to his girlfriend on the air of an Australian radio show, borrowing a ring from someone nearby, most famous grooms-to-be invest some major cash and custom style in the engagement rings they purchase.  Celebrity engagements are huge news, and most famous women want an engagement ring to match.  Here are some of the most extravagant celebrity rings:

-       Joe DiMaggio gave Marilyn Monroe a platinum ring with 35 baguette diamonds.

-       Chris Robinson of the Black Crows gave his wife Kate Hudson a five-carat Asscher-cut ring.

-       When Paris Lastis proposed to Paris Hilton, he presented her with an emerald cut diamond engagement ring worth almost $5 million dollars.  Too bad the engagement didn’t last!

-       Pricilla Presley’s engagement ring from her late husband Elvis included a 3-½ carat diamond surrounded by twenty-one small diamonds.

-       Michael Douglas wowed his wife Katherine Zeta Jones with a ten-carat marquise diamond engagement ring.

-       Beyonce’s ring is an 18-carat diamond and platinum engagement ring valued at about $5 million.

-       Mariah Carey’s engagement ring is a custom designed seventeen carat platinum and pink diamond setting worth $2.5 million, and includes 60 diamonds.

-       Tom Cruise presented his wife Katie Holmes with an antique style, five-carat, oval shaped diamond, set in platinum and rose gold.

-        Donald Trump gave his fiancé Melanie Knauss an emerald cut twelve-carat ring worth $1 million.

-       When Jennifer Lopez became engaged to Mark Anthony, she earned herself an eight carat square cut diamond, even though she had denied it was an engagement ring and wore it on her middle finger.

-        Madonna’s wedding ring, while no longer needed, was three diamonds weighing in at five carats.

-       When Jessica Simpson wed fellow pop signer Nick Lachey, she wore a 4-carat pear shaped ring.

-       Princess Diana thought outside the box with her sapphire engagement ring.  The blue stone was 18 carats surrounded by fourteen smaller diamonds.

We seem to want to know what rings celebrities wear as much as they want to show them off, and while any of these settings may fall far outside your budget, its fun to marvel at their beauty and extravagance.  Maybe you can design your wedding or engagement ring inspired by a celebrity ring, just more modest in price and size.

Anna Paquin Wears Vintage Engagement Ring

Monday, November 9th, 2009

Antique Style Engagement Ring from LieberfarbA round stone vintage engagement ring seems like the perfect choice for HBO’s True Blood on and off-screen romance between Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress and magnet for life threatening situations and Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), a vampire made in the 1800s with a soft spot for humans.

Although the series, which is based off Sookie Stackhouse Novels by Charlaine Harris, begins in a small southern town, the couple’s love scenes and intimate conversations often occur in the 200-year-old Compton family house. In addition to the high ceiling and hardwood floored two- story house, Bill Compton is also known for his antique taste, which he often expresses to Sookie throughout the series.

Even the proposal site was inspired by classic-felt character Bill Compton. According to People.com, Moyer, 39, said that the lyrics to a song played during a scene where Bill is driving in a car inspired him to slide the vintage ensemble onto Paquin’s, 27, ring finger on a vacation to a white sandy beach sometime in August 2009.

Was the ring on Paquin’s finger once worn by a queen, or was it passed down from a spirited grandmother, who was accidentally murdered by a vampire hunter? Perhaps, it is a new ring, customized in vintage, to symbolize the beginning of their story with hopes to be passed on to someone else.

Traditionally, the term vintage is loosely used to describe a ring that was once worn by someone else. These rings often come with a story, and if they don’t, one has every right to create a narrative of their own. One ring may hold a tradition passed along through generations, and another may have been worn upon the finger of a highly regarded individual in society.

Vintage rings were made in times with little technology, which means they were created by the hands of local jewelers and customized to the individual needs of the customer during certain historical time periods. Because of this, it is rare to find two antique rings that are exactly the same. Whatever the story may hold and time period the ring represents, the character of a true antique ring will provide a unique charm impossible to find in a new ring.

The most popular vintage rings are dated back to the late 1800s to mid 1900s. These rings are easily recognized by their ornament design with small circular stones—often diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires—in a gold setting. The filigree ring is often delicate in design.

It is important to realize that vintage rings most likely have flaws because of their age. An older ring will have scratches and chips, which will need to be repaired. Accumulation of dirt and oil will also need to be removed in order to see the classic beauty of these rarities. Repair and cleaning costs should be accounted for when a buyer is considering a vintage ring.

Depending on the age and wear of vintage rings, the repair and maintenance of such rings might be impractical. It is often recommended to have a jeweler custom make a ring that is similar in style to correct this issue. Customized rings still hold the tradition of the original ring, yet they are durable to sustain the story for years to come.

The story that accompanies the vintage style ring hanging from Paquin’s finger has been kept quiet for some time. The couple’s off-screen relationship was revealed during an awkward love scene between Bill and another cast mate according to People.com, but the wedding details are still hush-hush. With all things considered, an early 1900s charm and velvet ambiance is much anticipated in this red carpet wedding.

Dark Knight Star Marries Real-life Batman

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

A note of congratulations is due Maggie Gyllenhaal and all and fellow actor Peter Sarsgaard, who just recently decided it was time to tie the knot and make their relationship official. The couple have reported they were married in a very private and intimate ceremony in Italy this past weekend. Sources close to the couple said that the ceremony was small and private, true to the character of the couple and the way they conduct their public lives.

The ceremony, which took place in a chapel in the small town of Brindisi, was attended by close family, friends and a select guest list of Hollywood elites, as well as their two-year-old daughter. A few of the celebrities in attendance were Reese Witherspoon and of course Jake Gyllenhaal, Maggie’s brother. “We are happy to report that Maggie and Peter were married on Saturday, May 2.” Was the official statement given by the actors actresses representative to people.com, E News and other media outlets. For both the writing room, 31 and 38 respectively, this was their first attempt at lasting love. The couple had been dating since 2002 when they were introduced to each other by Jake. The Dark Knight star and her beau have been very private about their relationship and the life of their daughter Ramona, aged 2, and have been engaged since 2006 when Maggie discovered she was pregnant.

The engagement ring Maggie was presented with was a brilliant round cut diamond approximately 3 carats in size. Set in the purest of fine platinum, it truly is a simple and yet masterful piece, even by Hollywood standards. Nothing is known currently of the wedding rings, however, as no pictures are known to have been taken or otherwise published.

We at weddingrings.net will keep you posted with all the latest details as they come in.

Impending “Not So A-List” Weddings

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

With so many big named celebrities becoming engaged, breaking engagements and tying the knot, no wonder some of our favorite lesser known actors and actresses slide through the cracks when it comes to their wedding announcements. Their engagement bling seems to go relatively unnoticed as well! So let’s get a quick review of some of the past few month’s little-hyped “I do’s”.

One of America’s favorite original Kings of Latin Comedy, Cheech Marin, made famous for his half of the hippie culture’s favorite bumbling two-some Cheech & Chong, has become engaged recently to his lady friend of four years, Natasha Rubin. Let’s hope he doesn’t “accidentally” do “something” to forget where he left the wedding rings!

In a classic case of life imitating art, it would appear that not unlike the characters they portray in the upcoming film, Made for Each Other, Hollywood fan favorites Bijou Phillips and Danny Masterson are actually, well… made for each other. One would think so at least, considering Danny went and gave Bijou a 4 carat diamond solitaire set in platinum earlier last month! Another popular cliche’ regarding the couple centers around how there just must have been something in the card for these kids. They did meet at a celebrity poker tournament after all! But hey, with four carats worth of flawless diamond, let’s just say that’s one heck of an ace up your sleeve. Way to play your hands, you two! But I digress…

Ah, little Wednesday’s all grown up. Independent film favorite Christina Ricci has become the latest Hollywood lass to say “I do.”, having accepted the proposal of actor Owen Benjamin. Rumors began circulating on the set of the upcoming comedy film All’s Faire in Love that the two had become romantically attached. I guess now it is official! Christina has been spotted around town wearing a tasteful engagement ring of unknown design. Hopefully Thing won’t get his hand on her bling!

Lastly, another couple making the news this month from the fashion world is American designer Marc Jocabs, who has become engaged to his partner and world famous ad executive, Lorenzo Marton. The couple both sport simple gold engagement bands. No date or location for the ceremony has yet been announced.

Vince Vaughn Engaged to Canadian Realtor

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

Actor, screenwriter and supposedly funny guy Vince Vaughn has become the latest Hollywood star (and for Vince we apply that term lightly) to become engaged. Vince and his girlfriend, Canadian born realtor Kyla Weber, made the official announcement last month. The couple have been together since shortly after Vince’s brief relationship with actress Jennifer Aniston ended. Vince, 38, and the Canadian beauty,29, have been by many accounts inseparable since the two were introduced by a mutual friend. Sources close to the couple have said Vince took the old fashioned approach to the proposal, dropping to one knee and asking Kyla for her hand in marriage.

The engagement ring was made public when it was first photographed by paparazzi whilst the couple were taking in a movie at a local theater in Santa Monica, California. The ring is reported to be a 4 carat Marquise-cut valued at approximately $125,000. A paltry some when compared to most other Tinseltown engagement rocks, but the Calgary based real estate queen seems to be impressed none-the-less. One of the bride-to-be’s co-workers, a realtor named Sylvia Smith, has been quoted as saying “It’s magnificent. It’s a great big diamond surrounded by other diamonds.” We thank Madam Smith for her expert analysis. One can never really know about these things, but in this blogger’s mind, it is perhaps more than possible that the lack of attention given to this engagement ring has been done purposely. Some Hollywood trend followers may remember the veritable circus that was created when it was reported that Vince had purchased a 9+ carat yellow diamond engagement ring for then lady friend Jennifer Aniston.

All sarcasm aside though, we here at weddingrings.net are more than happy for Vince. Several sources close to him have been saying for some time that he has been looking forward to finding the right gal to settle down with and start a family. “He’s a simple, Midwestern good guy and she’s very down-to- earth, which is exactly what Vince is all about.” , a source close to Vaughn has been quoted as stating, going on to mention “They’ll be married either in L.A. or Alberta, and they’re both ready to start a family.” Considering Kyla’s recent move to the L.A. area, we’re thinking it’s going to be a State’s-side wedding.

Still, one does have to wonder about one thing… ‘Branjolina’ dominates the tabloid headlines each week… Mr. and the now soon to be Mrs. Vaughn are capturing the attention of fans and readers… and couple that with John Mayer walking out on yet another Hollywood honey… what must poor ol’ Jennifer Aniston be thinking right now?

The Scoop on Pre-engagement and Promise Rings

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

Pre-engagement and promise rings are becoming quite popular in many circles. From knee sock wearing tweens to Hollywood megastars, both sexes are sporting these trendy little baubles on red carpets and school house hallways across the country. Curious to know why someone would give a pre-engagement ring or why your young daughter may be wearing a promise ring? Let’s examine why such tokens are so appealing and what exactly their respective meanings may be representative of.

Pre-engagement rings are growing in popularity these days for perhaps three primary reasons. Firstly, various Hollywood trend setters, such as David Blaine for example, have begun to use the pre-engagement ring as a symbol of love and commitment without having to worry about the making of wedding plans and perhaps to avoid many of the hassles life under the paparazzi microscope can bring. The gifting of a pre-engagement ring does create a buzz, yes, but once said hubbub dies down, often times the couple is forgotten as “old news” and allowed to continue of their path together slightly less swarmed by media photogs. However, some jet-setters have a tendency to go the other way with the pre-engagement ring phenomenon. Many young celebrity couples, knowing that there is no such thing as bad publicity and Tinseltown, have opted to make pre-engagement rings a rather big deal. Press releases, purposeful posing in from of the paparazzi and various other media trick have been employed by several young couples in the past all in an effort to create buzz in Hollywood and ensure a Page 6 photo-op! Couple these two trends and a third one emerges; pre-engagment rings are becoming more and more popular with John and Jane Q. Public. As non-celebrities, many people wish to emulate the lives of their favorite Hollywood stars and ride the newest waves, and as such, pre-engagement rings are now more popular with everyday consumers as well.

With regards to promise rings the story is slightly different. Though a pre-engagement ring is certainly representative of a promise, a promise ring usually identifies a marker other than an impending marriage. According to some historians, the concept of the promise ring as a symbol worn to represent secret knowledge is as old as the concept of the crown being indicative of power. The priesthood’s of many ancient cultures wore rings inscribed with curses. In the event that the priest or shaman were to ever reveal the secrets they had been taught, the curse was sure to bring calamity in all of its forms! In the modern era, promise rings have a broad range of meanings. Thought they often are reflective of young love, and many promise rings are symbolic of sworn chastity, sobriety or freedom from addiction, monogamy between partners in an unorthodox coupling and religious conviction.

Finally, both pre-engagement and promissory rings have always had a tendency to rather simple in their natures, usually consisting of a small, in-ornate band. When shopping for either type of ring, the current trends, even the Hollywood Elite, are settling for style over substance. Perhaps you may want to follow their lead with regards to planned purchase as well.

Harrison and Calista Announce Long Awaited Engagement

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

People Magazinehas confirmed that box office superstar Harrison Ford finally popped the question to his long time sweetheart and fellow ‘red carpeteer’, Calista Flockheart. This is the third time Harrison, aged 66, has decided to take the big plunge. For Calista, 44, it will be her first time down the isle after a few failed attempts at happiness.

According to sources, Harrison proposed on valentines’ day of this year during a family retreat to an unknown location. After seven years of exclusive dating, and Calista having adopted a son in 2001 named Liam whom the couple have shared in raising, we wish the two all the best of luck! Little is known regarding the nature of the proposal itself as the couple has been rather tight lipped on the subject. Representatives of both actors have had little to share on the topic as well. No known date has been set for the impending nuptial, nor have investigative sources determined any locations having been booked by the couple.

The engagement ring itself is low-key as far as Hollywood celebrity jewelry is concerned. In fact, the couple has been careful not to even comment on it. Though no details have yet to be released, nor has a designer stepped forward offering any, upon close examination a few hints can be gleaned regarding its’ specifics. The engagement ring ’s diamond has been estimated to be 2 1/2 to 3 carats in weight. Appearing as a broad and flattened princess cut, the stone shines forth from its golden setting. It would appear the rings sizing may have been a bit off, but alas, with all the gold trinkets Indiana Jones inevitably collected over the years, finding something to fill in the gap with shouldn’t be too much of a problem!

The fact that the couple seems to enjoy their privacy and not want to make the piece, their engagement, or any details available at all is a rare move for most Hollywood couples. However, it is in this blogger’s opinion that such discretion regarding these topics is more than respectable, and I look forward to reading more on such details when more surface.

Andy Roddick Tells All About His Wedding Day

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

As tennis fans across the globe are already aware, serving sensation Andy Roddick married his fiance’, super model Brooklyn Deccker this past weekend at the couple’s home in Texas. According to many, Andy’s brother most notably, the ceremony was a simple back yard affair, one which groom had always dreamed of having. Now Rockin’ Roddick has decided to post his version of the events on his official website. “It was great to have so many of our family and friends make the trip and share the occasion.”, that ,on top of being quoted as saying that having Sir. Elton John perform at the wedding was “…very, very surreal.”, Mr. Roddick went on to state “We had to set up a tent ’cause the weather was not agreeing with us, but it ended out working out, so it’s all good.”

Other noted celebs in attendance were tennis legends John Mcenroe, Stefi Graf and Andre Agassi; a slew of former and current swimsuit models and of course, Sir. Elton himself. The latter guest on that list having given the couple a song or two as a wedding gift.

The down-on-the-farm ceremony was sealed with the standard kiss and a not so standard matching set of platinum wedding bands from the most recent Tiffany & Co. line of designer bands. The bride’s engagement ring, a tasteful 2.5 carat single solitaire-cut diamond set in platinum, finally found its’ new best friend and life partner as well. The festivities didn’t end there however, with the couple’s 250 or so guests then being invited to attend a “denim only” reception at the couples nearby country club; the same place where Roddick does much of his training according to some sources. Sir Elton took requests from the crowd and the entire wedding party, friends, family and guests enjoyed an old fashioned Texan BBQ!

Andy ended his website entry with some very heartfelt words, “It was one of the only times in our entire lives that we will have our whole family, our best friends from home, and our professional worlds all in the same place at the same time and it definitely went too fast.”

Anakin Skywalker Pops the Question to Earthling Princess

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Not so long ago in a city not too far away (Hollywood), actor Hayden Christensen proposed to Rachel Bilson, herself of silver screen fame. In late February of this year, People.com reported that the couple had become engaged over the previous holiday season. Hayden, 27 - and made uber-famous for having portrayed the role of “pre-gothpunk makeover” Darth Vader in the most recent STAR WARS trilogy - proposed in a still yet disclosed manner to the actress of the same age, the two having met on the set of the movie, Jumper. News of the engagement was leaked to the above named source by an un-named individual who had sat on a transcontinental flight next to Ms. Bilson. After having been asked about her lovely ring and whether or not she had set a date yet, the actress replied, “No, we just got engaged.”

As for the lovely ring, Rachel has been far more clever at keeping those details under wraps than the announcement of the impending nuptial. However, careful observation and use of some elaborate imaging software has allowed us to make a few educated guesses as to the nature of the engagement ring. Before we begin our examination, the management here at weddingrings.net/blog would like very much to thank our special speculatory investigative team, ‘The Wing-Dings Squad’. They are, true to their motto, “The best darn wing-dings on these here interwebs!’

Judging by the photograph page right, the ring from afar clearly stands out at a naked eye viewing distance of approximately 8 -10 feet. This has instantly led many to speculate the rings weight to be at least 2.5 carats. The inset of the photo, pictured within the red circle, is an enhanced image showing a great deal of detail. The diamond itself is most probably a solitaire-cut stone, but when our experts take into account the angle at which the photo was taken and run it through 3-D imaging analysis software, the Wing-Dings have calculated a 17% chance that is potentially an unorthodox “rounded oval-cut”. Light refraction analysis of the stone itself has determined the ring to be of a less than natural origin. Though not a paste based, or otherwise faux stone, it emits a high ultra-red spectromittal refraction when exposed to sunlight, thus proving it was likely man made! The Rings metal is, according to light wave reflectional analysis tests, either pure platinum or a platinum-based white gold alloy.

The design and presentation of the overall piece is quite tasteful. The band of the engagement ring appears to have somekind of segmented or corrigated exterior, perhaps itself inlaid with small stones or consisting of etched designs.

We wish the young couple all the best of luck this galaxy can afford them! We keep high hopes Hayden doesn’t do Rachel like that deadbeat Anakin “Darthman Cometh and Went” Skywalker did Padme’ Amidala…abandoning her pregnant self on some desolate rock in the middle of no where… no weapons with which to defend her poeple… having to rely on Uncle Obi Wan to raise her son.

Tom Brady & Gisele Bundchen Take it to the End Zone!

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Super model Gisele Bundchen and Tom “Super Bowl” Brady were wed late this past February, 2009. The couple had been dating and engaged for sometime before the ceremony, and according to many sources, have transitioned well into married life. The very private event itself took place at the Santa Monica catholic Church located in Santa Monica, of course.

At 28, the Brazilian born bombshell wore an amazing strapless designer dress to her first trip down the wedding aisle. This was Mr. Brady’s first attempt at married life as well. She was sure to see that her three miniature pet poodles wore gowns matching her own, as all three served as bridesmaids to wit! The ceremony, which started at dusk as reported by US Magazine, was simple and elegant with only a small number of the couple’s friends and family in attendance, to include Tom’s young son John, sired during a previous relationship with Hollywood actress Bridget Moynahan who was not reported as being in attendance though having been invited to attend. Though perhaps not as glamorous of a wedding as one might expect for such a well known pair, it would appear Gisele had a dream wedding none-the-less, having once been quoted as saying when asked in an interview that she would prefer, “A simple ceremony. I would prefer something more intimate with only the closest people.” After the Kiss, Tom and the now Mrs. Brady left the church with the new step mother carrying Tom’s son in her arms and attended a small celebratory gathering at the couples home In Brentwood , California.

The vows exchanged were topped with a matching pair of white gold wedding bands, each inscribed with words of eternal love and set with small, emerald cut diamonds whose designer is still unknown.
