The Perfect Anniversary Date

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

Congratulations, after years of wedded bliss, it’s time to celebrate a landmark Anniversary.  You bought her the ring, now you need some ideas on how to give it to her.  I know you guys, and no, tossing it to her before you grab a bagel on your way to work is not going to cut it!  Here are a few ideas on ways to make this evening the date to trump all dates, the anniversary that will remind your lovely bride why she married you in the first place.

Bring her back to the beginning.

Revisiting the site of your first date is a fun way to reminisce about when you first fell in love and how nervous you both were in the beginning.  By this point, you know each other better than a mom knows the number of freckles on her little baby’s hiney and to “make it like the first time” will no doubt bring back the ol’ butterflies and sweaty palms you had so many years ago.

Sneak away for a romantic weekend.

This one takes some extra planning and forethought, but there’s nothing like the look on a woman’s face when she finds out that what she thought was a weekend at the in-law’s house, is really three days and two nights in Cabo or, if you’re a winter wedding couple, a cozy cabin in the middle of a light snow fall.  (Just remember to pack her a separate bag for the trip.)

Do it wedding singer style.

Find a music teacher with a little extra time on her hands to give you a music lesson or two.  Then, do a little research and find anyone that will let you publicly serenade your lady to the tune of the song the two of you danced to at your wedding so many years ago.  Make sure to practice, think of Mr. Schuester in Fox’s new hit Glee, so as to dazzle your wife with skills she never knew you had.  Try such venues as jazz clubs, ball parks, plays or even a concert…anywhere you have a little pull would be helpful, but you’ll be surprised how many romantics there are out there willing to help.

Make a home movie.

Gather all the pictures and videos you can find of the two of you over the years, pick some romantic music and with the help of a friend or some creative computer software you can make a pretty darn good movie!  Design fake movie tickets and stock your special seats with cushions and wine if you want to add that special touch.  Whether or not the movie is Oscar worthy, there isn’t a woman in the world who doesn’t love a good chick flick.

A beautiful Anniversary Ring will speak for itself, of course, but presenting it to her in the perfect setting will make you the hero for years to come.  That is…if you don’t do something to end up in the dog house, then good luck because whatever spectacular event you plan this year, you’ll have to top it again next year!

The Perfect Gift for your Bride: The Anniversary Ring

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

Do you have an anniversary coming up?  Are you stumped on what to get your bride for your first Christmas together?  How better to show your commitment to her than with the gift of jewelry?  Technically, paper is the traditional gift for your first anniversary, gold is meant to be given on your fiftieth, and diamonds are the traditional anniversary gift to give your spouse when celebrating both your sixtieth and seventy-fifth wedding anniversaries, but why wait so long?  Why not celebrate your next anniversary, or your first Christmas together as husband and wife, with some of these precious stones?  Trust me, your wife does not want to wait sixty years for another diamond, and what kind of gift is paper anyway?

One of the best ways to gift jewelry to your wife, aside from her engagement ring or wedding band is to purchase a diamond or gemstone anniversary ring.  Essentially, an anniversary ring (also called an eternity ring) is a slender ring that is designed to compliment her wedding band, and tell her that you hope your love lasts as long as the ring’s namesake.  There are two main categories of anniversary rings.  One is the standard, which will have a row of gemstones that completes the circumference of the band.  The other called a half-eternity ring or half-anniversary ring is designed with gemstones that run half of the circumference.

These stones can range in size and color; some prefer the look of diamonds, others may purchase an eternity band with a variety of other precious gemstones, and others chose to use their bride’s birthstone.  If you and your wife have children, perhaps you choose to use your children’s birthstones.  You should choose an anniversary ring that compliments her wedding ring well because the traditional practice is for a woman to wear the anniversary ring behind both her wedding band and engagement ring.  Some prefer to wear their anniversary band in place of their wedding band, or perhaps even on their right hand.

Diamonds last an eternity which make them the most popular choice for an anniversary ring, but whichever design you choose, gifting your bride an anniversary ring not only gives her a token that further reminds her of your love and commitment, but also another family heirloom to pass along to your children.

You may think that a ring channeled with diamonds is going to break the bank, but there are many options that can fit into your budget without sacrificing beauty.  Take a look at some of these stunning diamond anniversary bands that will put a smile on her face and cost much less than you might imagine.

Versatility of the Anniversary Ring

Friday, November 13th, 2009

You still feel as lucky as you did when she replied: “Yes,” after you lowered one knee to the ground. And, through it all, the same sparkle that glittered in her eyes the day she said: “I do,” manages to continue to shine throughout the years. She has been wearing that wedding ring for 10 years now, and you would like to give her something new, or….

While you are shopping for a wedding ring, you browse through the anniversary ring section on a website, and find a ring that looks like that special one. This is not unusual because wedding rings and anniversary rings are one and the same. Many women choose to buy an anniversary ring and wear it as their wedding ring. On the same note, many wedding rings are transformed into anniversary rings by using the gemstones of wedding rings. With that said, it is not uncommon to find various gemstones other than the diamond in anniversary rings more often than in wedding rings. Anniversary bands are often decorated with a colorful array of gemstones.

The practice of giving certain anniversary gifts at certain years is often credited to the Germans, and traditionally jewelry doesn’t occur until the 10 year mark. But, not all are traditionalist. Whether you are looking for a special gift to show your appreciation to the one that stood by you after all these years, or you are simply still searching for the perfect wedding ring, here are a few styles to look for when shopping for the symbol of eternal love.

Traditionalist

DMT1877-L_fYou are one that values the history of tradition. You followed the traditional gifts for the past 13 years. Now, it is time for the gift of gold. A tri-colored gold piece like the one featured on the right is a perfect gift of gold to celebrate 14 years of togetherness. This piece is made of white, rose and yellow gold and decorated with .60 carat diamonds.  Its layered design falls nicely on the finger, and the tri-colors will match with many other pieces of jewelry, making it ideal for everyday wear.

The Minimalist, but…DMT1652-3L_t

You don’t like clutter. The more simple the ring, the better it is for you. But, you don’t want a ring that is too plain in design. You want something to stand out, like a pinch of cayenne pepper in a bowl of chili. A basic ring band with two different gemstones is the perfect match for the one that wants to add just a little spice. This ring (featured on the right) is a basic 14k gold band, but the contrast between the diamonds and rubies offers a tad of boldness to the design.

You are unique. You search for pieces that are different and new. You often wear what no one else would dare. This 14k gold band decorated with .60 diamonds (on the right) is modern enough for the one who wants to standout. The insert where the diamonds lay makes this ring one of a kind.

Engagement Rings

Some people choose to propose his or her desire to marry another with a ring. It is a Western custom that the engagement ring is worn on the third finger of the left hand, indicating the person is to be married. You may recall the common scene in almost every romantic movie. He lowers his right knee to the ground and gently grabs her left hand. As he slowly slides the ring on her third finger, he says the four words that she has been waiting her whole life to hear: “Will you marry me?”

The engagement ring is easily recognized by one large centered gemstone, the most popular being the diamond, but isn’t limited to other quality gemstones like rubies and sapphires. Some engagement rings are decorated with smaller gemstones that surround the larger center stone. The larger gemstone gives the engagement ring its identity. It is what separates the engagement ring from wedding rings and bands.

Wedding Rings

Since the times of ancient civilization, the shape of the wedding ring has always remained the same—a circle.  TPT287-L_fhe round shape of the ring is not only to suit the contour of the finger, but dates back to the ancient Egyptian symbol of eternity.

Besides the circular shape of the ring, everything else is a variable design element. Wedding rings are available in various metals. Platinum and gold are the most popular, but stainless steel, titanium and tungsten are often chosen for their durability and price. Lastly, wedding rings often have small gemstones of all kinds on the band.

Newest Wedding Ring Trends

Monday, May 4th, 2009

For many couples, the idea of simple gold bands being exchanged at their wedding is becoming old fashion. Some people want to follow the latest trends, make  a unique statement about their love or just be plain ol’ different. For such couples we dedicate this article wherein we will examine some of the more popular wedding band alternatives.

One rising trend is to purchase rings of a more flashy or showy color scheme. Incorporating stones such as rubies, sapphires or emeralds has become an increasingly popular way to update the old fashion wedding band. Often times the bride and groom will have rings of a similar setting design, but the stone or stones used will be their respective birth stones, as opposed to having near identical looking wedding rings.

Multi-band rings, or multi-tone rings depending on whom you ask, are another growing trend. Rings designed of two or more metal bands which have been permanently ‘banded’ together are quite the rage among many modern couples, and serve as great anniversary gifts as well! Often times such rings are comprised of bands made from differing metals, such as gold and platinum. Truth be told, most custom rings of this such design can include most any metal the customer may desire.

Here at weddingrings.net, we have blogged extensively about the ride of alternative metals such as tungsten, titanium and their alloys. Again, these metals with their unique beauty and specialized metal working techniques continue to be the most popular of new weeding band trends. Anodization and special finishes are the most popular ways in which these ever more common rings can be made that much more unique.

Finally, there is a growing niche market for what some might call ‘the truly unique’! Wedding rings with secret compartments have been designed to hold small items, perhaps from the wedding day, while others have been designed to flip open and reveal hidden messages. Ultimately, such unusual rings are more often than not custom made by high-end designers. Still, as their acceptance among consumers looking for the perhaps bizarre continues to climb, retail chains and custom showrooms, as well as online retailers, will begin to carry more and more such designs to meet buyers’ demands.

Do not be fooled into thinking that such rings may be beyond yous specific budget either! Admittedly, a pure platinum custom designed ring could equal the cost of many smaller weddings, but if less expensive metals such as a low fineness gold are used, the price for such custom designs can be significantly reduced without having to sacrifice design features or overall beauty.
